It’s all about the Texture…

It’s all about the Texture…

Imagine walking through your dream home… you glide across the smooth wood floors, lie in the plush luxurious pillows atop distressed leather couches, run your hands along the milled ridges of the walls and the sleek marble counter tops. Experiencing a home is all about the texture. Texture as a design element is vital to every aspect of a room adding both dimension and tactile sensations. There are many ways to add texture to your home, and we will explore four beautiful ways we have seen texture done right.

  1. Textured wallpaper is a revelation…it is easy to execute and remarkably stunning when finished. From these little intricate damask patterns in dark blue, to the fresh white ridges adding whimsy to this bathroom! We love these wallpapers!

2. While we are on the subject of walls, we are completely taken with good millwork detailing. This grand foyer is enhanced by white walls with beautiful millwork that captures the light, and this living room maintains simplicity while gaining dimension from the square milled walls.

3. Pillows are a simple and great way to introduce texture to the home, and these pillows do so beautifully! We especially love the fringe accents on the Anthropologie pillows as fringe is a growing trend!

4. Last, but not least, are these incredible textured rugs! We wanted to show a variety of textures from the classic fluffy bedroom rug that begs you to relax, to the wonderfully textured woven rugs that are perfect for layering as well! Atop a contrasting smooth wooden or tile surface these rugs will create texture that you can see and feel!

These textural elements will employ two of your senses, sight and touch, and will enhance the aesthetics of your home.  That is why we always keep in mind while designing that a room is not only meant to be seen, but to be experienced.
